Frequently Asked Questions

Will I receive any reminders prior to turning Age 65?

You may receive numerous reminders from various third parties. However, you should only enroll in a SHBP Medicare Advantage Plan Option.  As a courtesy, SHBP will contact you via mail at the address we have on file at 4 months and 2 months before your (or your Spouse’s/Dependent’s) 65th birthday requesting you (or your Spouse’s/Dependent’s) enroll in Medicare Part B.

Who should I contact to enroll in Medicare Part B?

You (or your Spouse/Dependent) should contact the Social Security Administration (SSA) at least 90 days prior to your (or your Spouse’s/Dependent’s) 65th birth month.

Who should I provide my Medicare Part B to?

Retirees must provide their Medicare Part B directly to SHBP one month prior to the Retiree’s (and/or Spouse’s/Dependent’s) 65th birthday: Go to mySHBPga.adp.com or contact SHBP Member Services at [email protected] or (800) 610-1863

If you provided SHBP your (or your Dependent’s) Medicare Part B information…

If you provided SHBP your (or your Dependent’s) Medicare Part B information at least one month prior to your (or your Dependent’s) 65th birthday or your retirement date if you continued to work past age 65, you will be automatically enrolled in a SHBP Medicare Advantage plan option and your premium will continue to be subsidized by SHBP.

If you have not provided SHBP your (or your Dependent’s) Medicare Part B information…

If you have not provided SHBP your (or your Dependent’s) Medicare Part B information at least one month prior to your (or your Dependent’s)  65th birthday or your retirement date if you continued to work past age 65, you will remain in a SHBP Commercial (non-Medicare Advantage) plan option, your premium will not be subsidized by SHBP, and you will be responsible for the entire costs of coverage which is substantially higher than your current premium. You may reduce your premiums prospectively if you provide your Medicare Part B information to SHBP.

Providing Your Medicare Part B to SHBP Is Easy

Contact SHBP Member Services at [email protected] or 1-800-610-1863 or visit the SHBP Enrollment Portal and take the following steps:

  1. Log in to the SHBP Enrollment Portal
  2. Select “My Information”
  3. Then select “Medicare Management”
  4. Select the pencil next to your name or your Dependent’s name to enter Medicare Part B information.
  5. Click “Submit” to save your Medicare Part B information.

Paying Your SHBP Coverage

Generally, your premiums will be deducted from your Annuity received from your State Retirement System.  However, if SHBP places you on Direct Pay, you will receive an invoice from ADP’s subcontractor, Wageworks. If you have questions regarding the invoice, please immediately contact SHBP Member Services via email at [email protected] or via phone at 800-610-1863. Failure to pay the invoice will result in termination of your coverage with no right to reinstatement unless you return to work in a benefits eligible position with an SHBP Employing Entity.
