Retirees: Rates
The SHBP has two Annuitant Subsidy Policies to determine the amount of the subsidy Annuitants (i.e., Retirees) will receive to assist with covering the costs of their SHBP Retiree coverage:
- Annuitant Basic Subsidy Policy (Old Policy)
- Annuitant Years of Service Subsidy Policy (New Policy)
The amount of the subsidy a Retiree receives from SHBP depends on the Annuitant Subsidy Policy to which they are subject to, and that subsidy decreases a Retiree’s monthly premium amount for their SHBP coverage and ultimately determines their rate.
Prior to December 2011, there was only one Annuitant Subsidy Policy in place, the “Annuitant Basic Subsidy Policy”. In December 2011, the Board of Community Health approved the “Annuitant Years of Service Subsidy Policy”.
Below are a few frequently asked questions we receive during pre-retirement meetings.
-
How Does SHBP Know Which Annuitant Subsidy Policy Applies to Me?
If you have already retired, SHBP previously received a New Retiree Record from your State retirement system which provided the data necessary to determine which policy applies to you. The record included important data such as the date your retirement began, your years of service as of 1/1/2012, and your total years of service.
-
How Can I Determine My Years of Service as of 1/1/2012 or Total Years of Service?
- Contact your applicable State Retirement System, or
- Log into your account on their website. Both ERS and TRS allow you to log-in to your account and view whether you had 5 years of service as of 1/1/2012 and your total years of service.
