You retired, you went back to work, and now you’re ready to return to retirement life. SHBP wants to ensure your Active Member coverage transitions back to Retiree coverage, but we need your help.
When a Retiree transitions back to retirement status after employment with an SHBP Employing Entity, the Retiree Must notify SHBP Member Services within 31 days of their last day of work.

When Should I Notify SHBP That I Have Terminated My Employment?
Within 31 days of your last day of work, you Must notify SHBP Member Services via email at [email protected] or via phone at 800-610-1863.

What Happens After I Timely Notify SHBP That I Have Terminated My Employment?
SHBP will coordinate with your State Retirement system to resume deductions of your SHBP premiums from your annuity. SHBP will place you on Direct Pay status until your premiums are able to be deducted from your annuity, and you will receive an invoice from SHBP via ADP’s subcontractor, Wageworks. Until you confirm that your premiums are being deducted from your annuity, you must submit payment per the terms of the invoice.

What Does My Employer Need to Do When I Terminate My Employment?
Your Employer should immediately transmit your eligibility data indicating Termination from employment to SHBP the same as they would for an employee terminating their employment for any reason other than retirement. Note unless you are retiring from a position with the Employer, your data should not indicate that you are a Retiree.

What If My Employer Incorrectly Notifies SHBP That I Am Retiring?
You will be placed in a Pending Retirement status for up to 6 months in which SHBP will directly bill you for your premiums, and then your coverage will be terminated. However, your coverage will not be terminated if:
- You notified SHBP Member Services of your return to retirement within 31 days of your last day of work, SHBP will coordinate with your State Retirement system to resume deductions of your SHBP premiums from your annuity, and
- You do not have a lapse in premium payments because you have paid all monthly invoices sent to you via ADP’s subcontractor, Wageworks, if applicable.
