Employers: Terminating Employment

Transmitting Employee Eligibility Records for Terminating Employees

It is important that Employers ensure they are transmitting the correct Record Type to SHBP within 30 days of employees terming due to:

  1. Retirement, or
  2. Any reason other than retirement (e.g., re-retirees not retiring from their current position with the Employer)

Employers should review the Employers: Eligibility Changes section of our website for a full description of all SHBP Approved Record Types.

Terminating Employment Due to Retirement

For employees terminating their employment due to Retirement, Employers should review the Employers: Planning to Retire section of our website for more information.

Please refer those employees to the Active Members: Planning to Retire section of our website for more information.

Terminating Employment For Any Reason Other Than Retirement

Your employees enrolled in SHBP coverage who terminate their employment, but are ineligible for retirement or choose to delay their retirement, have options to extend their SHBP coverage after employment by enrolling in COBRA or State Extended Coverage, as applicable. Please refer those employees to the Active Member: Terminating Employment section of the SHBP website for more information.

For Retirees Returning to Retirement who are not retiring from their current position with the Employer, the Employer should review the Employers: Returning to Retirement section of our website and refer those Retirees to the Retirees: Returning to Retirement section of our website.
